Technical Challenge
Sulzer Medical learned of incomplete fusion of implanted Inter-Opt acetabular cups which formed part of their total hip system. Faced with a substantial recall, Sulzer worked with Veryst consultants to evaluate the cause of the incomplete fusion.
Veryst Medical Solution
Veryst performed surface analyses of acetabular cup coatings, sampled and analyzed fluids from the manufacturing process, and performed chemical analyses of potential contaminants.
The ultimate cause was determined to be incomplete removal of machining coolant from the acetabular cup outer surface porous coating.
